Maren Munoz
Project and Program Management
Providing teams with comprehensive operations support and bringing deep knowledge and practical experience in product design, software development, and quantitative experimentation.
I make an impact by operationalizing strategic initiatives by developing and socializing detailed project plans and timelines and facilitating communication between functions.

“Maren is one of the biggest factors in our teams cohesion and success IMO. I don't know how she is able to do all the things she does so well while also being in a different time zone (East coast).”

Selected projects
Making filters obvious & accessible to customers
Designed, tested, and launched a new way to filter search results that increased discoverability and provided customers with quick select options which doubled engagement with filters.

Cross-functional Coordination
A quality assurance program for proposed experiences in Search
Evaluated hundreds of A/B tests performed on the Amazon search page by meeting as a cross functional “CX quality assurance program” team and looking at the quantitative experiment results (increase or decrease in revenue as the primary metric) to make launch decisions.

Exploring bringing motion to Chase mobile app for the first time
Organized and managed a four week Proof of Concept to test if using animations in the Chase app for the first time would be possible by working with both an iOS and Android engineer to validate three ideas before presenting a north star vision to senior card leadership.

Updating a button style can be a pretty big deal
Worked with several engineering teams to test and launch the updated, more modern button styling for the “Add to cart” button which was implemented successfully with no regressions and resulted in a flat or slight increase in revenue. There was urgency to complete update in a very short amount of time due to an executive mandate that the “Add to cart” button would appear on every product listing by the end of the year with added challenges like holiday code freezes.

Launching a dark mode design system for a new, AR wearable
Completed and launched a first version of a dark mode design system for a 0-to-1 Augmented Reality wearable by publishing a Figma library and documentation site and working with teams to use the components and contribute new ones.

Process Optimization
Creating and implementing a custom typeface in three months
Created, tested, and implemented a new, custom condensed font on our device in three months on time before a strict hardware deadline cutoff, with zero regressions, and with positive sentiment from teams by iterating consistently, testing rigorously, and working closely with feature teams to resolve local adoption issues.

Making documentation more effective and useful to users
We improved our documentation site by simplifying the navigation and updating the content, reducing it by more than 50%, making it easier for designers to read through and understand quickly and easier to maintain. We eventually merged our documentation with that of the Amazon Shopping Design team which was another large project that created efficiencies for creating and consuming teams.

Capturing data from Design Office Hours to inform our roadmap
We started consistently tracking the types of questions and the specific components coming up frequently during our weekly office hours meetings (13 hours/month) in a simple, flexible list to help us understand what products to prioritize building, enhancement, or where there may be gaps in our documentation. This could also be scaled to track questions at developer office hours meetings and the data could be combined to be even more useful.

Design Systems team OKRs - Increasing the Office Hours CSAT score
After mixed feedback about interactions in the office hours meetings, the team set an operational goal to increase the CSAT score for the event by using a post-meeting survey, which we developed in partnership with our UX research partners, and over the course of the year we saw a 28% increase in the score with a final CSAT of 86, up from 67 at the start of the year. Qualitative feedback helped us make adjustments like using team-coded Zoom backgrounds to help attendees better understand who was present and making recommendations.

Gleaning insights from our training data to guide our 2025 roadmap
Created a clear picture of how the design system trainings were performing by pulling and organizing the data, coming up with a process to report monthly, and showed that overall, 92% of the people who started online trainings also finished them.
